Urban running trail taking shape

The Outdoor Running & Exercise Trail mini project provides a ‘real opportunity’ to develop something different to normal tracks, says Campus Reimagined’s Will Reed.

The University is working with England Athletics and local running club Hyde Park Harriers (HPH) to bring the project to life.

Will Reed, Development Manager for Campus Reimagined said:

“Our campus is at the heart of the city and includes flat green areas, steps, and hills. It’s also full of architectural gems and wildlife.”

“There is a real opportunity here to develop something different to a normal running track, something that fits around and showcases our beautiful campus that people of all abilities can access.”

“We’re excited at what we could achieve and are working on a brief for an architect to start to crystallise our ideas.”

Collaboration at the University

The Secretary of HPH, Grace Roberts, works at the University as a Scientific Officer in the School of Biomedical Sciences. She got in touch with Will when she saw the project announced.

Grace said:

“Hyde Park Harriers meet every week at The Edge where we have 12 different groups of all different paces. Our club ethos has always been inclusivity and supporting the community.”

“It therefore made complete sense that we help bring the Outdoor Running & Exercise Trail into existence – we as a club can bring our members’ experience as well as our contacts at England Athletics to help this project become a reality – we’re really excited to be a part of it!”

“We love the idea of formalising a route around campus – and maybe even further afield – to bring runners together and foster a sense of community.”
